“Logorama,” which won the Best Animated Short Oscar, had one of the coolest five second clips last night. The full 16 minute video is embedded above. It’s pretty awesome.

LINK: The trouble with Alec Baldwin «
An excellent blog post about the bizarre kind of celebrity Alec Baldwin is at the moment. Hosting the Oscars, starring in “It’s Complicated,” winning Emmy after Emmy for “30 Rock”… yet his personal life could not be more disturbing. Yet, we somehow have all chosen to ignore it? And why?

Gabourey Sidibe, best actress nominee for “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ By Sapphire.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if they give away cars at this year’s gifting suite.
LINK: The 2010 Razzie Nominations «
I think this could be the year that an actor takes home both an Academy Award and a Razzie. I’m talking to you, Sandra Bullock (ALL ABOUT STEVE).
There is really not all that much to say about the Oscar nominations, revealed this morning. Save for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s supporting actress nod (over expected nominee Julianne Moore), the four acting categories pretty much played out, dully, as everyone thought they would.
The best thing, seriously, about the nominations is that Avatar’s original screenplay and Leona Lewis’ “I See You” were both snubbed. AND OF COURSE that they expanded the Best Picture field to ten nominees so that The Blind Side could get recognized for its nuance and emotional heft.

LINK: "Up" vs. "Fantastic Mr. Fox" «
Entertainment Weekly’s Owen Gleiberman profiles what, to me, is the most interesting face-off this awards season—Best Animated Feature. Up and Fantastic Mr. Fox were two of my favorite films of the year, and, while I enjoyed “Up” more, I think I agree with Gleiberman that the “marvelous, one-of-a-kind, more-resonant-the-more-you-think-about-it” Fox should take the cake. (But it won’t.)

LINK: Sandra Bullock's 2009--the smart game plan for future Oscar-hungry comic actors «
Vulture uses Sandra Bullock’s performance in “The Blind Side” as a framework for crafting plausible Serious Roles for comedic actors. After seeing “The Blind Side” last night, I have to agree. It’s not that challenging a part—it’s right in Sandra’s wheelhouse, just crafted to have a bit more gravitas.

The Top 10 Movies of 2009
2009 was more significant for breakthroughs in technology rather than in artistic merit, but, nevertheless, many excellent films were released this year.
1. “An Education”: The only film this year that had me from beginning to end. Remarkable for its brilliant screenplay and even brilliant-er performance from Carey Mulligan. Peter Sarsgaard and Rosamund Pike lead the stellar supporting cast. The film made me question the value of my entire life to date.
2. “Up”: Equal parts poignant and whimsical. A great example of how to use 3-D to add an emotional layer to a film without distracting from character or plot.
